Artisan’s Story Tours
No tour is ever the same as I want to design one to exceed YOUR expectations of what the area has to offer.
What makes your travel meaningful is the people you meet along the way. The very stories that they tell you, together with their openness, spontaneity, sincerity and directness, are what touch your very being, your soul. They are the stories that you tell your family and friends when you return home feeling uplifted and transformed, having seen that change is indeed possible, and that seemingly unsurmountable challenges in life can be overcome.
Visit Nishiawakura Village, touted as a “miracle village” by some media. Though it is a tiny village with a population of just under 1,500, thirty-four new businesses have started in the last ten years. Across Japan, small mountainous communities have been suffering from severe depopulation as young people leave for big cities looking for more desirable work opportunities.
Find out why then this small community tucked in the woods is attracting young entrepreneurs through the powerful stories that they tell you of how and what they did to realise the changes they wanted to see in their lives.
We recommend the following places for you to truly get the feel of the Northeastern Okayama area.

We offer tours in English with a licensed guide as the public transport access is limited.
We hope to provide you with many moments of going deeper, sinking into yourself as you immersein Japanese countryside life. Hiking through the beautifully maintained woods, having a picnic at a view point after visiting the mysterious stone circle up in the hills.
Also, if interested, any cultural activities can be added. We are happy to tailor-make a tour just for you and your companions.
We are going to re-open on Saturday 6 May. Thank you for your patience and your heartfelt support.
Every Saturday (only) and watch out for the French flag!
Nishi-hour occupies a renovated closed-down primary school in the village where one can learn about Japanese wood culture. The company is heralding a movement to educate the forestry industry and consumers to use the local woods and raise awareness about the mismanagement of the cedar and cypress plantations by the government. Their main products ( chopsticks, cutlery, furniture, etc) are made using the waste woods from forest thinning. As in the image, one can learn about traditional wooden architecture by studying the model framework of the Japanese house in the "gym" which will soon house a permanent wooden toy collection for children to play with by November 2014.
